internet are Ichi-go-ichi-e

(The only- the first and the last
- meeting in life)
The Internet is like a universe,
where you might easily get lost
not aware
of while
you are just walking into space
around the
earth.
Welcome to my home-page!
You are the first guest.!
I welcome you with hospitality
of Ichi-go-ichi-e.
Ichi-go-ichi-e means literally
"the only- the first and
the last- meeting
in life"
. I will treat all my guests
as the first
ones.
That is why my guest book counter
is always
"1".
This page is not completed yet
and still
under construction.
I will promise you to complete
it hopefully
by the time you will come back
in near future.
Anyway please enjoy your stay.
I'm looking forward to seeing
you again.

About Ichi-go-ichi-e |
|
Ichi-go-ichi-e comes from a book
written
by Soji Yamagami
who learned from Rikyu Sen(1522-1599)
and made a master of the tea
ceremony.
Soji wrote about Rikyu Sen and
his disciplines
in that book.
He says "when you hold a
tea ceremony,
you should treat your guests
with the best
hospitality
from beginning to end as if this
is the first
and the last ceremony hosted
by you in your
life".
I also understand Ichi-go-ichi-e
as
"whenever you meet someone,
even if
it is very short,
think it the only chance to communicate
with
him in you life
and do your best in treating
him".
I meet many people everyday but
I would not
be able to get anything from
them unless
I try to cherish every minutes
of meeting.
Sometimes I think I don't want
to meet this
guy,
or I do want to meet that guy.
However, as far as I think this
way,
I think I can not get anything
meaningful
from anyone.
This is my lesson to remind.

TO kazu_san
I was looking for a Kazu I met in England
in the seventies.
He was a great friend and I cannot get in
touch with him.
He lived in Tokyo, in Naka-meguro.
If I remember well, his last name was Shihashi.
He was an architect and a designer. Any news
of him?
Thanks.
Manuela

Ms Manuela
Unfortunately,but I don't know him.
Shihasi is not popular name in Japan, and
this is the first time for me to see it.
However, I am so kind to help you. If you
want, I can upload his name on my home-page.

mail from England
Dear Kazu
Can the proverb "Ichi Go Ichi E "be roughly translated as
"One LifeOne Purpose".
I have been practising the Shito Ryu system
of Karate for 24 years now
and have always steered away from having my name embroidered on my gibelt,
however I think that I would like to have the above proverb in it
if I can get hold of the correct calligraphy Kanji. can you help me onthis
kind regards
Osu

*************************
I got this mail from Phil Powell in August 2000.
On my site in English, it is now available to get some Kanji-letters, thanks to his request. We've been mail-friends since then.
He has a Dojo (a kind of school) in England, which belongs to the Ito School of Aiki-do. It was very nice of him to send me a photo of him and his daughter in Dogi (kimono-like sportswear for Aiki-do). So in return, I sent him a picture of me eating fish & chips in London on vacation. ----- Does he prefer to another one taken at a Japanese tofu restaurant in Kyoto??
He plans traveling to Canada at their 25year's wedding anniversary, as well maybe to Japan. It sounds exciting!!
I showed him a Japanese textbook, which is recommended by a famous bookstore here in Osaka, since he seemed to be so interested in Japan.
I a little bit wonder if he is still leaning Japanese!? |
Special thanks to my translation team
who did a good job of translating my
difficult
Japanese text
into easy and understandable English.
